Keiko Matsui is a Japanese born, Australian based ceramic artist primarily working with porcelain.
Keiko’s approach to the creation of both functional and non-functional objects is one of poetry and whimsy, yet always displaying the simplicity for which she is known.
Keiko Matsui completed a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Honours) in 2006 at the National Art School in Sydney. Following her studies, she undertook a residency in Japan and learnt the Japanese art of restoration techniques: Kintsugi.
She had her first solo exhibition at Sturt Gallery in Mittagong in 2012 after exhibiting many group shows since 2003. Her recent achievements includes North Queensland Ceramics Awards (Finalist, 2020, 2018, 2016, 2010, 2004), Gosford Art Prize (Winner in Ceramics, 2018, 2014 & 2012), Vitrify Alcorso Ceramic Award (Finalist, 2013), John Fries Memorial Award (Finalist, 2011) Small Art Object Prize in Vallauris, France (Winner, 2009) and the Woollahra Small Sculpture Prize.
