■5days Summer Workshop at Sturt Contemporary Craft Centre in Mittagong NSW

In this Summer Workshop, I will focus mainly on TWO things.

ONE  is to navigate you to find your own form. I will discuss with each student their ‘current’ form and then the student will be guided to discover their new form by doing section throwing, assembling, making collages on paper, and creating paper vessels.

We will visit Sturt Pottery’s permanent collection cottage on Day1 and discuss vessels form and techniques for your warm-up.

My SECOND  focus will be on observing your ‘current’ skills, and teaching you further throwing skills meticulously, in order to take you to the next level. It does not matter what shape you are making, I want you to challenge taller, wider, and finer piece in this workshop.

This is my first ever long-hours workshop, which gives me abundant time to teach you & discuss about the many aspects of pottery. All students will be invited to the Artist tutor’s visual presentation talk after the classes. I am planning to talk about my journey as a potter, and experience of Artist-In-Residency in Arita, Japan.

For those interested in my 5 days intensive throwing workshop from 5th Jan to 9th Jan in 2022, please register your interest  HERE . Alternatively, please contact Pheobe at Sturt Contemporary Craft Centre.

■”The Splash Moon” is selected as a finalist for NQ Ceramic Awards 2020

My work “The Splash Moon” is selected as one of the finalists for the Biennal NQ Ceramic Awards 2020.

The Splash Moon (30 x 33 x 40 cm height), by Keiko Matsui
[Photography: Greg Piper Image Solution]

I am thrilled to announce that The Splash Moon was selected as one of the finalists for the Biennal NQ Ceramic Awards 2020.It is not easy to travel anywhere now due to the COVID19 pandemic, however, I appreciate if you could visit the exhibition when you are around. There are so many beautiful and technically challenging artworks in this prestegious awards.

The Moon represents powerful feminine energy.

It signifies wisdom, intuition, birth, death, and a spiritual connection. I am allured by the moon for the reason that it is an eternally beautiful object.

The Splash Moon is a sculptural vessel combining strong Japanese aesthetics: WABI (subdued, austere beauty) SABI (rustic patina), and YOU-NO-BI (Beauty in utilitarian objects).

It endeavours to express the light (splashes of gold kintsugi pigment) and the darkness (dark bronze glaze running) of the moon while incorporating the shape of a female’s pudendum as a base.

The silver part on the base is not the shadow of the moon above, yet it is enticing the viewer to ponder.

You may feel like standing in the universe after contemplating this artwork by walking in a full circle.

Congratulations to the winners and all the finalists!

If anyone would like to purchase this one-off piece, please contact the gallery staff directly.

■VICTORIAN BUSHFIRE APPEAL FUNDRAISING EXHIBITION

DESTRUCTION, BEAUTY & HOPE @ Long Gallery, Montsalvat.
VIC bushfire fundraising exhibition2
It has been heartbreaking to watch as the devastating bushfire crisis continues, therefore Montsalvat has decided to offer support in the form of a special fundraising exhibition entitled ’Destruction, Beauty & Hope’ to try and raise much needed funds for the appeal.

Montsalvat have invited artists to donate artworks for the exhibition with 100% of the sale of these artworks being donated to the Victorian Bushfire Appeal. Montsalvat will also be supporting the exhibition with a special opening in the Long Gallery on 1st February (2-4pm). All of which will go directly to the Victorian Bushfire Appeal and 100% of these donated funds will go directly to communities in need.

The exhibition will feature over 30 works from local and prominent artists such as visual artists Lewis Miller and Karen Hopkins, internationally renowned ceramicist Kevin White and award-winning designer jeweler Jeanette Dyke. As well as many of Montsalvat’s studio artists and local artists.

I have donated my kintsugi vase for this fundraising exhibition as a part of Montsalvat’s artists as well as newly arrived resident in VIC. Please pop in the Long Gallery!
